Legal conditions*

Foreign investment in Croatia is governed by trading laws. Based on reciprocity, foreign investors must respect the Croatian rules and regulations as well as their legal position in a trading company in the same way as native investors.

A foreign investor has a right to additional security which is not given to native investors. The Croatian Constitution ensures that rights acquired from capital investments are not reduced by any kind of law or legal act, that any profits do not have to remain within the country, and that any invested capital can be removed from the country on completion.

All corporate bodies founded and registered in Croatia, regardless of whether they have been realised by foreign or local capital, will be treated as local corporate bodies, with the right to own property. It is of no importance whether the property acquired will then be used for commercial or private use.

The reciprocal regulations in Croatia ensure that a foreign, local or corporate body can acquire property (movables and real-estate) and be at liberty to do what he wants with it. All foreigners must first get authorisation from the Croatian foreign office before claiming ownership on real-estate. It is irrelevant whether they plan to do business in Croatia or not.
